Marshmallow Root tincture is used for pain and swelling (inflammation) of the mucous membranes that line the respiratory tract. They are also used for dry cough, inflammation of the lining of the stomach, diarrhea, stomach ulcers, constipation, urinary tract inflammation, and stones in the urinary tract.

Its botanical name comes from the Greek word altho, meaning “to heal”. Marshmallow has been used since Ancient Egyptian times. The fresh young tops are still eaten in France as a spring tonic, but it is used, nowadays generally, as a last resort, especially in times of famine.
